Hailing All Stations, Hailing All Stations, Hailing All Stations! USCG Auxiliary 70th Birthday – June 23rd. 2009 Auxiliary Day Declared in Our Town!
To all the Mayors, Town Supervisors, City Managers and those in Elected Offices,
Why should you bother to declare June 23rd “US Coast Guard Auxiliary Day” in your cities, towns and villages? Here are some reasons…
In 2008 alone, USCG Auxiliarists in our district...
– Saved 16 Lives – Assisted 527 People – Saved over $14M in Property – Conducted over 10,000 Recreational Vessel Safety Checks – Conducted over 6000 Marine Dealer visits – Taught over 5600 Hours of Public Education and – Performed nearly 6000 hours of Public Affairs outreach to an audience of 500,000 fellow US citizens, including events at both Yankee and Shea Stadiums.
At Yankee Stadium, the billboard outside of the stadium delivered the Recreational Boating Safety message to millions driving by each day.
Over the past 2 years alone, it would have cost the US Coast Guard over $12 Million dollars if they had to pay for the thousands of hours of service contributed by Auxiliarists in our district. And it would have taken a staff of 317 full time employees a year to generate that same contribution of time that they donated over this two year period.
The U. S. government estimates the value of a life at approximately $6 million dollars. The 16 lives Auxiliarists in our District (1SR) saved plus the $14 million dollars in property saved by USCG Auxiliarists in 2008 equates to an inconceivable value of $110 million dollars in lives and property saved. I'm proud to be part of this and humbled to be part of Team Coast Guard... I hope you see fit to honor these Volunteer Life Savers with a day of recognition – June 23rd, 70 years since being chartered by the Congress of the United States.
Faithfully Yours,
Vincent T. Pica, II
